| Hiking the McDade Trail - Turn Farm to Hialeah |
NOTE: I started writing this blog post right after returning from this hike but life took over and I never got a chance to finish it. Many months later, I have done my best to complete this trip report using the photos, GPS waypoints and whatever else I can recollect.
After five previous trips to the
McDade Trail, I finally set out to complete this hiking trail on a warm and very humid August morning. As with my previous outing, I began this trip at the Turn Farm Trailhead at N41° 03.461' W75° 01.395'.

As I mentioned on my
last trip report, Turn Farm is named after John Turn, who once ran a ministry camp on this location. Most of the buildings that once stood here were taken down in the 1970's for the Tocks Island Project, but as luck would have it, there is still a small stone and wood shed standing here after all of these years.

With the Turn Farm Trailhead being a spur trail, it takes a hike of about 1/4 mile down the trail to reach the main section of the McDade Trail. Since I was heading south toward the Hileah Trailhead, I turned right at the intersection at N41° 03.366' W75° 01.146'. A half mile later you'll cross the first of three bridges on this section of the McDade Trail.

Just 1/10th of a mile later, you'll reach the Riverview Trailhead. Named after its close proximity to the Delaware River, the Riverview Trailhead offers a few parking spaces but no other amenities. The segment of the trail from Riverview to Smithfield Beach was actually the first area of the McDade Trail to be officially opened to the public in June 2002.
